Healthy Snack Ideas that will help you lose weight

An important part of weight loss is making sure to choose healthy snacks as part of your diet. Snacking is not taboo and is good for you. People that eat small amounts of food four or five times a day are less lightly to become overweight than those who eat only three meals a day. This keeps your blood sugar level and you don't get into a "starving" mode. Try to avoid starches and processed sugars as much as possible because this causes junk food cravings. Foods rich in protein and fiber will keep those pangs of hunger away.

Just as you plan your meals, take time to plan your snacks. To curb hunger and keep you level plan on having a small snack mid morning and another one mid afternoon. Try to have plenty of grab and go snacks when you need something quick because healthy snacks are not found in the vending machines. Give yourself a variety of snacks so that you don't get tired of the same things over and over again.

Here are some healthy snack ideas:

-Raw Vegetables- Celery, Tomatoes, Cucumbers, Broccoli, Cauliflower, Green Peppers, Green Beans, Mushrooms, Zucchini and Carrots. These are great to pile on a salad or use a lowfat dip with them. Just be sure to be careful of the salad dressings because you can pile on the fat grams without realizing it if you choose a dressing high in fat. Make sure to choose a fat free or low fat dressing or make your own with vinegar and olive oil. Go ahead and cut up the vegetables and put in snack size bags for a quick and easy snack for work. When on home, make a vegetable tray to sit out and enjoy. Plus, if you have an own garden, you can even grow your own healthy vegetables.

-Fruit Snacks- Take advantage and enjoy the fruits that are in season. You can also make a low fat dip to enjoy. Another fruit choice is to eat dried fruit and it will last longer without spoilage. You can dry your own fruit or pick some up at the health food store. Be aware that dried fruit is a little higher in calories than fresh fruit.

-Dairy Products- You can lose weight by consuming dairy products and it should be incorporated into your snack foods. Try lowfat yogurt with fruit mixed in. Make a lowfat shake or smoothie in the blender.

-Lowfat Breads- Foods that are high in fiber help you feel full. Breads and grains accomplish this. Use applesauce instead of butter and make a pan of low fat muffins. You can change the muffins up by adding fruits or shredded carrots to give them a different taste. Granola bars have oats that are a good source of fiber. Watch the labels and opt for natural ingredients. Non- sugared whole grain cereals make a healthy and quick snack, as well. You can eat cereal dry or with in a bowl with low fat milk to include your daily intake of dairy.
